On May 3, around 2:28 p.m., Whitney Bosselman of the Village of Quaker Hill in the Town of Waterford called police reporting her 5-year-old son was missing from the family home, said Waterford Police Lt. Timothy Silva.
Responding officers conducted a search inside and outside of the home and the surrounding property. After about nine minutes, officers located the child strapped in a car seat in the backseat of a Toyota Camry parked on the property.
The child did not have a pulse and efforts to revive him by officers and medical crews from the Waterford Ambulance Service and paramedics from Lawrence and Memorial Hospital were unsuccessful, Silva said.
As a result, the Investigation Division of the Waterford Police Department, along with members of the State Attorney's Office, were called to conduct an investigation.
An initial investigation found the interior the home was in such condition as to be detrimental to the health and safety of the other children living at the home, Silva added. The Department of Children and Families was notified and responded to the scene.
Following an investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Bosselman in connection with her son's death. She turned herself into police on Monday, Oct. 15. She was charged with criminally negligent homicide and is being held on $50,000 bond.
"The Waterford Police Department has always kept the victim at the forefront of this investigation," the department said in a statement. "Our officers and investigation unit did what the could to honor the child's memory through their hard work and dedication."
